Physicians and the ACA: An Unwanted Reform

Physician Opinion on ACA and your InsuranceSince the proposal of health care reform surfaced in 2010, there have been mixed opinions and feedback from the physicians who are now required to implement these changes. What was once believed to be the biggest supporter of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), or ObamaCare, the medical field is now proving to be on the fence about the new developments. As more changes are made within the healthcare reform, contact your trusted Barnes insurance agent for TN ObamaCare Assistance.

Although the reform laws are supported by some, recent surveys and physician commentary are proving to demonstrate that the majority are against it. According to a survey by Jackson & Corker, a whopping 70% of AMA members disagreed with the position on the Affordable Care Act. Even more astounding, 47% of physicians who ended their membership with the American Medical Association declared the reason being its support of the ACA.

Another concern associated with the ACA includes the speculation that government will have more oversight and power over the doctor’s practices. This, in turn, will cause doctor to be more dependent on the unreliable reimbursement from the government for services rendered.

Growing dissatisfaction with the ACA is causing physicians to consider retiring early and even rethink their careers. Another survey by the Medicus Firm found that approximately 33% of health care providers would want to leave the medical field after the ACA was implemented.

These new developments are cause for concern with the health care industry. In addition to personal insurance plans changing, it begs the question: if more doctors are dissatisfied enough to leave their practice, where does that leave the patients? Will the ACA be reformed again to limit disapproval? As more information becomes available, we will keep you posted as to how these concerns play out.
